When the Illinois & Michigan Canal Commissioners laid out the town of Lockport in 1836, block 148 was designated as a cemetery. Located on the hill east of downtown this location is bordered by Madison, 6th & 7th Streets. The Lockport Cemetery Association was incorporated in 1853. We are a not-for-profit 501(c)(13) organization with a board of directors appointed by the Will County Executive Office.
Visitors to the Lockport Cemetery will encounter many famous names from Lockport's past. Among those buried here are George Gaylord, William Gooding, Hiram Norton, John Lane, Holder Sisson, Horace Singer, Edward Worst, Robert Milne, Styx McDonald, John Heck, Ichabod Codding, Ebenezer Collins. These are just a few of the names found on monuments in the cemetery.
